Six Flags announced recently that it will operate Waterworld California in Concord, 10 years after it sold the 30-acre water park.
The park, which is located about 18 miles southeast of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, features more than 35 water attractions.
“This is an exciting new venture and a great opportunity to provide families with more entertainment options in this important market,” Six Flags President and CEO John Duffey stated in a press release. “Guests in Northern California will now have the opportunity to enjoy two beautiful Six Flags parks. This is truly a win-win, as we welcome our 20th property — Waterworld California — back into our family of parks.”
Six Flags entered into an agreement with EPR Properties, owner of Waterworld California, to operate the water park, which is subject to approval by the City of Concord.
Waterworld was one of seven parks Six Flags sold in 2007 in order for the company to reduce its debt.
Waterworld’s newest offering, Break Point Plunge, is a 270-foot long looping thrill ride that launches riders in a capsule from a height of more than six stories. Other slides include Honolulu Halfpipe — a mammoth curved tube slide — and Cliffhanger, one of the park’s signature speed slides.
The move gives Six Flags an avenue to compete in the water park market in Northern California with Raging Waters and California’s Great America’s Boomerang Bay. Great America’s owner Cedar Fair recently announced that Boomerang Bay will be expanded as part of a 20-year master plan for the Santa Clara park.
