Laughing Sal is all dolled up and on display at SCBB.
Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk now has Laughing Sal on display with theater lighting and sound. She can be found on the beach side of the boardwalk, near the entrance to Neptune’s Kingdom. Laughing Sal is the famous laughing woman who was at the entrance to San Francisco’s Playland at the Beach’s Fun House. Made by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company, she originally cost $360 in the 1930-40s. Inflation and nostalgia seems to have taken a toll on the Boardwalk and is rumored that she cost them $50,000.
